Save Horses from Slaughter

Show Description:
Today on Everything Animal, I will have the pleasure of welcoming Christine Barrett-Destefano, owner and founder of Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue. Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue has been saving horses for many years. As of July 18, 2009 they have SAVED  90 horses, ponies and mules primarily from  SLAUGHTER!  99% of their time is spent  CARING for the horses and the small farm animals totaling 116.
They occupy 6 separate locations throughout the eastern Hamptons, one small sanctuary in Ohio. Their dream is to find the one  location which could house our  entire sanctuary and be accessible to the community.  They believe our next generation needs to be taught to treat all living beings with dignity  and if you believe all "blue collar" working equines deserve the right to retire in peace and comfort.  Join their mission to save, educate and ultimately change the world for the animals.   One horse at a time.

Their Mission:
Our mission is to save slaughter bound horses, ponies and mules, rehabilitate them as necessary and give them a second chance at life and love.  We look for forever homes and offer sanctuary as needed.  We stand and speak for the horses, especially the equine work force.  The racehorses, show horses, police and carriage horses, lesson horses and therapeutic horses no longer able to perform.  We are often their last hope.

48 months. 90 horses have come into Amaryllis. Countless additional horses have been fed or supported in some way by Amaryllis.  A plethora of small animals have found their safe haven within our walls. We currently feed and care for 45 horses just on the east end. The beaten, abused and almost destroyed equines live in peace with us.  The old have found their golden retirement THEY WERE ENTITLED TO after years of strenuous work. The young we saved have grown nicely and are in training for their forever homes. The injured have every need met as they heal. The lost souls are able to find themselves and still be loved for who they are.

Horses Healing Hearts

Horses Healing Hearts is a program in which the almost magical healing powers of the horses are tapped.  Both horse and human benefit through this union.  One person will be matched with one horse, mule or pony for a trial session after an evaluation by Christine.  This program is offered to children and adults who have suffered a loss, are dealing with an illness or just feel they NEED THE HORSES.  Feel you NEED to be in the presence of a grounded, safe, strong but gentle, always honest soul who will not judge you?  Then sign up now. Programs do not take the place of medical professional care, but it does help.   The horses are God's gift to us and they help us. So that no one needing us is turned away, we will open our barns and hearts for free will donations for this program.  If you have never (((hugged))) a horse, you are not yet complete.
